About Learn To Surf – Beginner
A starting point for anyone who wants to take up surfing. You will learn safety techniques, basic surf etiquette and board control to keep yourself and others safe. We take you right through all the important steps so you can gain a strong understanding on how to get up and start surfing.
Lessons are split into Adults (13 & over) and All Ages (6 & over). We recommend anyone under the age of 10 to have a complimentary ‘Parent / Guardian’ Ticket to help manage their board in the current and return to the line up.
Your Lesson kicks off 30 minutes prior to the session. This is the land-based component with important skills to prepare before hitting the waves!

Around 10-12 per surfer.
Group Size
8 guests per coach, maximum 16 guests.
Suitable for
Beginners who want to learn! We’ll teach you the basics, including surfing etiquette, stretching, paddling, how to pop-up, take-off and dismount.
Safety Lessons
Please ensure that you have watched the safety video and completed your waiver before arriving. Please arrive 45 minutes before your session.

Our 1 hour and 45 minute Learn To Surf lessons include board and wetsuit hire, a 30 minute briefing, land practice and warm up, 1 hour surfing The Bays under the guidance of an expert coach, and 15 minutes to warm down and recap.

Parent / Guardian Ticket
Accompany your children during their lesson!
Wear a personal flotation device (PFD) vest and join your kids as they Learn To Surf. If your child is new to swimming, or just needs some extra support, be their Surf Buddy and share the stoke.
Free for parents and guardians accompanying their children who are learning to surf, subject to availability.
Greenroom
URBNSURF photographers are on site each day to capture your perfect waves.
Whether you are a pro or just starting out, we take photos of sessions both at The Point and in The Bays including lessons. Photos are available within an hour of your surf online.
