Our Lagoon Floor

We’re often asked about the floor of our two-hectare surfing lagoon – is it sand? plastic? concrete? What’s it going to be like to surf on?

Finding the right solution was a challenge. We wanted something strong and durable enough to withstand the 3 million-odd waves breaking on the floor each year, while also having something flexible enough that would allow us to contour the surface to deliver a top-notch bathymetry across our advanced, intermediate and beginner surfing zones.

We couldn’t find what we wanted, so we invented our own – a flexible cement pavement, with a membrane finish on top. And we’ve painted it a brilliant white, so once we fill ‘er up, the water will be an irridescent, idyllic blue colour, similar to something you’d see in the Maldives, but right here in Melbourne!
