Our Lagoon Floor

Written by URBNSURF   |   August 23, 2019

We’re often asked about the floor of our two-hectare surfing lagoon – is it sand? plastic? concrete? What’s it going to be like to surf on?

Finding the right solution was a challenge. We wanted something strong and durable enough to withstand the 3 million-odd waves breaking on the floor each year, while also having something flexible enough that would allow us to contour the surface to deliver a top-notch bathymetry across our advanced, intermediate and beginner surfing zones.

We couldn’t find what we wanted, so we invented our own – a flexible cement pavement, with a membrane finish on top. And we’ve painted it a brilliant white, so once we fill ‘er up, the water will be an irridescent, idyllic blue colour, similar to something you’d see in the Maldives, but right here in Melbourne! You ready?
