Where first-time surfers and World Champions alike can share the stoke!

Surfing is a sport, a culture, a lifestyle and a pursuit that means something different to everyone. For some, it’s an exciting, social activity best enjoyed in the summertime with family and friends. For others, it’s a lifelong passion that sits at the heart of their universe, with everything else revolving around it.

For us at URBNSURF, it doesn’t matter where you are on your surfing journey – we just want to help you get stoked, surf more and surf better. Who’s the best? In our eyes, it’s the person having the most fun. And starting from January 2020, there’s heaps of fun to be had.

Our Surf Academy, located in front of The Bays (our beginner surfing zone), has quickly risen from the Tullamarine clay, and our friendly coaches have been working hard in preparation of delivering world-class group and private surf lessons at URBNSURF Melbourne. We can’t wait for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to discover surfing with us this Summer!

The Bays, which occupy almost half of our entire lagoon, are the perfect place tohave fun with your loved ones, get comfortable in the water, and ride a wave for the very first time. Supervised by our trained lifeguards, with the help of our surf coaches we’ll get you up, riding and grinning from ear-to-ear in no time.
Our lessons will run for 1 hour and 45 minutes in duration and include 30 minutes for a safety overview, lesson briefing, stretching and dry-land practice, 1 hour of in-the-water surfing time, and 15 minutes post-lesson to warm down, debrief, and record tips for next time.

We’ll also be offering affordable, 1 hour beginner surf sessions in The Bays, so you can reinforce what you’ve learned in a lesson, or just to play around in the sunshine.

Like in our other surfing zones, when you’re learning or surfing in The Bays, you’ll score around 10-12 waves per hour.

The Point, our intermediate and advanced surfing zones, are located “out the back” of our lagoon, and are divided by our wave generator, Roary, into two distinct left and right breaks.

If you’re surfing in one of our intermediate or advanced surf sessions, you’ll have to choose to surf on your forehand or backhand – you can’t swap sides mid-session. To keep wave counts high, and to fairly manage the lineup, we think this is the best way to play it.

There’s a long list of wave settings on the menu, including fun, playful Malibu-style peeling waves, designed for novice surfers to find their feet on bigger greenwater waves, learn to trim and complete basic turns, and start practicing maneuvers. Even for more skilled surfers, these settings are awesome for longboards, fishes, softboards and finless craft of all shapes and sizes.

Our Giros (or “turns”) waves, that mimic the idyllic pointbreaks of Noosa, Rainbow Bay and Byron Bay, are universally loved. Providing long, powerful walls perfect for carving turns, cutbacks and more, and offering ride lengths of between 12-16 seconds per wave, it’s the real deal.

Both our Malibu-style and Giros waves will feature in our intermediate surf sessions, running for 1 hour in duration, and deliver each surfer around 10-12 waves to ride.

For more skilled surfers, our advanced surf sessions will feature our biggest and most challenging Giros waves, which offer steep walls and punchy sections to throw big turns, snaps and tight arcs in the pocket.

You’ll also surf a variety of our barrel settings, which we’ll change up based on the weather conditions on the day (some work better when it’s offshore, and surprisingly, some work better when it’s onshore). Will you get tubed in Tullamarine? You betcha.

Running for 1 hour in duration, and priced at a flat $79, each surfer will score around 10-12 waves per advanced surf session.

As you can see above, our multipacks of 3x group surf lessons, 10x intermediate surf sessions, and 10x advanced surf sessions, are now available. By buying upfront, you’ll receive 10% off the weekday single session price – but you can use them anytime you like, weekday, weekend or public holiday (subject to availability, of course). They’re also valid for 12 months, to give you maximum flexibility.

So you can give the gift of surfing this Christmas, our $60, $80, $100, $150, $200 and $300 gift cards are also now available. You can use them to purchase any of our products (including multipacks and memberships), use them in our Surf Rental store to hire boards and wetsuits, or on retail purchases at Lagoon Supply Co. The choice is yours!
