URBNSURF is stoked to be building Australia’s first surf park on Melrose Drive, Tullamarine to help Victorian residents and visitors #surfmore from Summer 2019/20.
Surfing is a sport enjoyed by millions of Australians for its fun, health benefits and lifestyle. Up until now, surfing has been held back by geographic limitations, only available at certain coastal locations, and by weather conditions, needing enough swell, the right wind, tide and daylight.
Located at Melbourne Airport, just 23 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD, URBNSURF Melbourne unlocks these limitations and allows surfers to enjoy their sport safely, more easily and more often.
Surfing in Melbourne? Now it’s possible.
URBNSURF Melbourne will be the first man-made surf park facility in Australia, and the world’s first full-sized Wavegarden Cove.
Using world-leading wave generating technology, URBNSURF Melbourne will deliver high-quality, authentic surfing waves to suit all abilities, both day and night thanks to LED lagoon lighting. With a north-south lagoon orientation, URBNSURF Melbourne has been designed to suit prevailing winds, with one side of the lagoon always delivering offshore waves.
Multiple lagoon-side amenities will offer something for everyone, including:
Three Blue Ducks
An on-trend, sustainable, licensed restaurant by Three Blue Ducks where you can enjoy a coffee and watch the surfing action, grab a post-session snack on the run, or share a beer and a meal with friends after a surf.
A fully-equipped hire store, providing board and wetsuit rentals, and enabling you to try new surfing hardware before you buy.
Lagoon Supply Co.
A hardware-focused surf shop, offering the latest range of boards, wetsuits, surf hardware, premium URBNSURF merchandise, and everything else you need to go surfing.
Our Surf Academy, which will deliver training programmes for all levels of surfing (beginner to elite) and host a range of “surf-fit” styled fitness classes.
Beach cabanas, skate ramps, a kids playground and lagoonside hot tubs.
High quality landscaping reflecting the local and Victorian coastal habitats, integrating the built environment into the natural.
URBNSURF Melbourne promises to be a compelling and iconic destination for surfers and non-surfers alike.
A master plan and preliminary design for URBNSURF Melbourne was delivered in 2016, and planning approval granted for the project in September 2016. Detailed design activities commenced in late-2016, and construction kicked off in Autumn 2018.
Our wave generator has been installed, our lagoon has been filled, and we’ll be pumping out perfect waves in October 2019. Once we’ve commissioned our wave generator, and completed construction of our venue buildings and landscaping, URBNSURF Melbourne will open to the public in Summer 2019/20.
